FAQ

Some of our most commonly asked questions. If you have something specific, get in touch!

  • What is your standard pick up area?

When we refer to “anywhere in Santa Barbara” as our pick up area we are referencing Montecito to Haskells Beach (Western Goleta), and the coast to Foothill/Cathedral Oaks. We will also start your Santa Ynez Wine Tour from the Valley for no extra charge.

We can pick up in Summerland and south to Ventura for a nominal charge. Please call to discuss. (805-564-1819)

  • How many people are usually on the tour?

The number of people on each tour depends on which tour you are doing and what day you are planning for. We have a Toyota Sienna minivan, and three Ford Transit vans which seat 7, 9, and 14 people. (You can see our fleet on the About Us page). If you are planning your tour for a weekend it is possible that you will be in a full vehicle.  Just give us a call and we can let you know about a specific date.                                            There is always the option of making the tour private.

  • Can a tour start later than the stated time?

Captain Jack’s prides itself on being flexible and accommodating for our guests. Many tours can be customized including the start time. this is especially true when you choose a private tour for your group or family. Some of our tours are restricted by tides, daylight, closing times, driving distances. Captain Jack’s will always do our best to deliver the best experience for you!

  • Are tours available year-round in Santa Barbara?

Most of our tours are available year-round. Occasionally a violent Pacific storm may make it impossible to safely run an ocean tour, or occasionally a summer heat wave might make conditions less than ideal for one of our tours. If we decide to cancel a tour we will always issue a full refund. Here at Captain Jack’s our aim is to create the most comfortable, fun and safe experience for our guests.

  • What types of tastings are included?

All of our partners strive hard to create the best experience for the guest. We are all on the same team!

The number of samples varies from place to place. Nearly all of our partners offer some choices in regard to the specific tastes they offer. Rest assured that we have chosen our partners carefully for their delivery of a superior experience and for their production of a quality product. Your tour fees have paid for the standard tastings offered by our partners. Occasionally you may need to pay a bit extra if you choose a more deluxe tasting. (your guide will be able to advise)

  • Can children participate in horseback riding tours?

The safety and well being of our guests is one of our primary concerns at Captain Jack’s Tours. This is particularly true on our horseback tours.

Children must be seven years old for our canyon ride and 10 years old for our beach ride.

  • What marine life can I expect to see on ocean tours?

The Channel Islands are referred to as the Galapagos of North America!  Our channel is home to humpback whales, seals, sea lions, and many species of dolphins. Seasonally we see blue whales, Orcas, and migrating grey whales. There are always a large variety of sea birds both resident and migratory. We see sharks of many varieties including spotted, lemon, and great white. There is no telling what nature will bring.

Absolutely! We understand that preferences vary, and we offer customizable options for private groups. Let us know your preferred vineyards or breweries, and we’ll tailor the tour to ensure you get the most out of your tasting adventure.

  • How long do the wine and beer tours typically last?

Our in-town tastings run about 4 hours. Most of our wine-tasting tours to the valley run about 7. Our standard tours include three unique venues. We can always design a shorter or longer tour. How do I make a reservation?

We are often on tours but monitor our phone messages 7 days a week. Please feel free to leave a message (805) 564-1819 or send an email [email protected]. Some tours can be booked online if that is convenient. You can book any of the tours over the phone. Payment is due at the time of booking and can be made with any major credit card.

How far in advance do I need to reserve?

If you are planning your tour for a weekend or holiday, we recommend booking 2 – 3 weeks in advance. For any other day of the week, we appreciate 2 – 3 days notice. For large groups it is always best to give us as much advance notice as possible. In some cases we can accommodate same day requests, but we appreciate as much notice as you can give us.

Many of your large group needs will often require more than 30 days notice. Please call us for details on specific events.

Where do the tours start?

For all of our wine tours and full day tours we will pick you up from anywhere in Santa Barbara. We normally pick up at hotels but we can also pick you up at a residence. If you are not staying in town and want to come up for the day please call us to arrange. We will figure something out!

Some of our tours, such as kayaking or horseback riding, require that you drive to a different location. Please call for details about the specific tour you are interested in.

What is your cancellation policy?

Captain Jack’s will refund:

75% of your deposit up to 7 days before your tour date.

50% up to 3 days before your tour date.

Please call us if you need to cancel. We would rather issue you a full credit for a booking in the future and are always willing to be reasonable, flexible, and humane.
